Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Tuesday called for streamlining legal immigration processes to help mitigate the country’s labor shortage with foreign workers.
In a speech before the Senate, Yellen recalled that in recent years there has been a drop in legal immigration and was open to any initiative that would serve to increase the labor force in the United States.
In this regard, both Yellen and the senator who asked her about this issue, Bob Menendez (D-NJ), welcomed the recent announcement by the White House that it will speed up the process of renewing work permits for immigrants who are already legally in the country.
