YouTube censored Thursday an interview of former President Donald Trump, which had reached 5 million views in 24 hours. Confirmation of the removal of the video came from the Nelk Boys channel, where the interview was broadcasted.
Nelk Boys published the YouTube notification, in which it is specified that one of the reasons for deleting the interview was because during the conversation they talked about irregularities in the 2020 presidential elections. The YouTube channel qualified the reason as crazy.
During the interview, Trump also referred to the situation in Ukraine and said that “what is happening now is horrible. What is happening in that country is genocide,” the Republican said.
YouTube and other platforms censorship
This is not the first time the former Republican president is being banned. Since leaving the Presidency of the United States, Trump has been censored by Big Tech, such as Twitter and YouTube. In March, the former president’s family denounced the removal on Facebook, of an interview with his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump.
Big Tech companies have also censored other conservative leaders. For example, in April 2021, YouTube censored Gov. Ron DeSantis and a group of experts who questioned the use of face masks on children.
DeSantis and some experts sparked debate on the use of facemasks in children because, according to guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in May, fewer children were infected with the disease during the pandemic than adults.
In relation to the actions taken by Big Tech, DeSantis has called its measures “Orwellian” and warned of the threat that freedom is facing nowadays. For this reason, in May of last year, the governor signed SB 7072, which aims to shield the state’s citizens from censorship.
“Many people in our state have experienced censorship and other tyrannical behavior firsthand in Cuba and Venezuela. If big tech censors enforce rules inconsistently discriminating in favor of the dominant Silicon Valley ideology, they will now be held accountable,” said DeSantis, during the bill’s introduction.
