Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky assured today that the country’s Armed Forces have “derailed” the Russian attack plan for the capital Kyiv, against which Russia used “everything” to storm it, such as fighters, saboteurs and airborne troops.

“I can start with the good news: we have resisted and are successfully repelling enemy attacks. The fighting continues in many cities and regions of our country. Kyiv and key cities around the capital are controlled by our Army,” he said in a new address to the nation broadcast by the Presidential Office.

“The occupiers wanted to blockade the center of the country and put (pro-Russian) puppets here, as in Donetsk. We have derailed their idea, they did not gain any advantage over us,” he added.

“The real battle for Kyiv continued. The enemy used everything against us: fighters, saboteurs, landing troops. The invaders hit residential areas, trying to eliminate energy facilities. Their tactics are very vile,” Zelensky said.

At least 35 people were wounded last night in Kiev, including two children, according to the balance of the whole city made by its mayor, Vitali Klistchko, who also informed that a Russian missile hit an apartment building in the west of the city.

He also denied the presence of Russian regular troops in the city after a night of heavy fighting and attempts by the Russian army to control the Ukrainian capital.

Zelensky stressed in his speech that fighting continues in many parts of the country – such as in Sumy (northeast), Kharkov (east) or Chernobyl (north) – and urged all Ukrainians to return to Ukraine and defend their country.

In the Donbas, according to the Lugansk Oblast State Administration, the Army has lost control of Stanitsia Luganska, Krymske and Markivka, according to UNIAN agency.

The Russian Defense Ministry also assured today that the Russian Armed Forces have established full control over the town of Melitopol near the Sea of Azov.
