Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) said that Russia may invade Ukraine due to “Joe Biden’s weakness.” The Republican argued that the Biden administration has a misguided foreign policy.
“Joe Biden surrendered to Putin, waived sanctions that had worked. That’s why we’re facing the prospect of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Cruz said when asked by the media about the issue.
The senator took the opportunity to say what, in his opinion, the White House should do to resolve the situation. “Biden should tell Putin the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is dead. That he is going to impose the sanctions that Congress has passed into law,” he said.
Will Russia invade Ukraine?
Ted Cruz’s statements come just after Biden ruled out sending troops on the ground to Ukraine if Russia invades it, despite warning his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, that there will be “never before seen” economic consequences.
An El American article detailed that the U.S. and Ukraine believe that Russia is preparing an incursion into Ukrainian territory that could occur in early 2022, and has therefore deployed between 70,000 and 94,000 Russian troops on its border with the neighboring country, according to U.S. intelligence estimates.
