On Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov threatened the West with taking “appropriate measures” if it does not receive a “constructive response” to its security demands, in reference to the conflict with Ukraine and the action of the Atlantic Alliance (NATO) countries.

The United States agreed with Russia that it would answer questions about NATO’s military presence in the region, and the Kremlin used the occasion to accuse the West of a “military expansion” that raises security concerns for Moscow.

Russia and Ukraine put pressure on Biden

Russia has been urging countries allied with the West not to allow Ukraine joining to the NATO treaty, and Lavrov’s warning appears to be in response to a list of actions the United States promised to take to avert a military crisis that Ukraine approves of.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba warned Biden on Tuesday that he will not accept any deal with Putin that is made “behind its back.”

“If anyone makes a concession on Ukraine, behind Ukraine’s back, first, we will not accept that,” Kuleba told CNN. “We will not be in the position of the country that picks up the phone, hears the instruction of the big power and follows it.”
