Top House Republicans questioned in a letter the job Alejandro Mayorkas has done as U.S. Homeland Secretary. They asserted that his actions have put Americans at risk.

“Your failure to secure the border and enforce the laws passed by Congress raise grave questions about your suitability for office,” reads the letter sent to Mayorkas and to which Fox News had access.

The Republican comments come in the midst of a growing border crisis that has accelerated after President Joe Biden announced the end of the immigration policy known as Title 42. In fact, the White House assured that it was prepared for an increase in the immigration flow after the President’s decision.

The so-called fact sheet indicates that the Department of Homeland Security has moved officers, agents and Volunteer Force personnel to quickly decompress checkpoints along the border and process migrants more efficiently.

Border Crisis

The move to lift Title 42 was endorsed by Mayorkas. In a statement, the secretary of Homeland Security indicated that the title is not an immigration figure, but a public health one, which has been employed by the CDC “to protect against the spread of a contagious disease.”

Republican efforts have not only been limited to warning about the consequences of the end of Title 42. At the beginning of the month, several Republican states sued the Biden Administration to prevent the lifting of the immigration policy.

“This suit challenges an imminent, man-made, self-inflicted calamity: the abrupt elim-ination of theonly safety valve preventing this Administration’s disastrous border policies from de- volving into an unmitigated chaos and catastrophe,” the lawsuit reads.
