The British Royal Family reported Thursday that Queen Elizabeth II died at 96. The news comes after Buckingham Palace said earlier that the monarch was under medical supervision at Balmoral, Scotland.
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” the family’s official Twitter account wrote.

Elizabeth II was head of state of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and fourteen other member states of the Commonwealth. She ascended the throne on June 2, 1953 following her father’s death. Between June 2 and June 6, 2022, the platinum jubilee commemorating Elizabeth II’s 70 years of the reign was held.
