A teacher was suspended at a school in El Paso, Texas, for instructing her students to refer to pedophiles as “minor-attracted persons” (MAPs) and attempting to whitewash pedophilia. The incident was recorded in a video that eventually went viral on social media.
In the clip, English teacher Amber Parker is heard correcting Franklin High School students and insisting that they should refer to pedophiles as MAPs. To the obvious refusal of the students, who responded that they would not do so, the teacher replies, “Don’t judge people just because they want to have sex with a 5-year-old.”

Intolerable conduct for Texas
A spokeswoman for the El Paso, Texas, Independent School District, Liza Rodriguez, said she suggested the school to fire Parker after conducting an in-depth investigation. Because it was a “personnel matter,” the school district did not offer any details about its findings.
According to an NBC News report, Parker faces possible termination over the incident. At the moment, she is on paid leave with termination pending, according to Rodriguez. When the network attempted to contact her, the educator responded that she’s not “not legally allowed” to comment.
This may be because the school board voted unanimously for her termination, but the next step was the appeals process, according to board chairman Al Velarde, quoted by NBC News.
Board vice chairman Daniel Call, meanwhile, said he doubted the circumstances, and that he initially believed the conversation between Parker and his students was taken out of context.
“Initially I was shocked and horrified when I saw the video,” Call said to NBC News. “Then when I heard that she was trying to be sarcastic, I felt bad for her. However, when the district’s investigation into this situation helped me understand the full story, I have no doubt that terminating this teacher is the right thing to do. Any reasonable person that heard the results of the investigation would vote to terminate her.”
For Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, the situation is unacceptable. “We aren’t putting up with BS like that in our schools,” he said on Twitter.
