The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is doubling its efforts to capitalize on the support of Hispanic voters. This time, it targets Nevada Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto in a new Spanish ad that exposes her complicity with criminals and calls to “penalize” her in the November midterms.
Titled “Juego” (game), the 30-second NRSC ad points out that Cortez Masto voted against legislation that sought to remove drug dealers from Nevada communities, promoted the release of violent criminals, and increased public spending directed at prisoners.
“Catherine Cortez Masto is leading the other side to victory,” the ad begins, then takes a quick tour through her voting record in the Senate. “It’s time to penalize her,” it concludes.
The TV ad is part of a $300,000 NSRC advertising campaign in digital and TV publications and explicitly targets Hispanic voters.
Tight race in Nevada
On November 8th, Cortez Masto will face the Republican candidate, former Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt, in the race to represent Nevada in the Senate. The outcome could be decisive in taking the narrow Senate majority from the Democrats.
The race in Nevada has been tight in recent elections. In 2018, Democrat Jacky Rosen defeated Republican Dean Heller by a five-point margin. In 2016, Cortez Masto defeated then-Republican incumbent Joe Heck by just 2.4 points.
Presidential races have been similarly close in that state. Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton won elections in Nevada in 2016 and 2020 by margins of just 2.4%.
According to recent polls, the current gap between Cortez Masto and Laxalt is tight. The most recent poll by The Hill gives the Republican a lead over the Democrat of just one point, with 11% undecided.
Our momentum to take back the Senate isn’t slowing down! Latest numbers show us pulling AHEAD of @CortezMasto 42% to 41%.

However, pollsters disagree. In a Fabrizio Ward and Impact Research poll in early September, the Democrat was leading with 44% of the voters, the Republican made up the 40%, and 16% of the voters remained undecided
Similarly, a Trafalgar Group poll in August gave Laxalt the lead with 47%, while Cortez Masto followed with 44%.
