The New York Post said Thursday their website and Twitter account were hacked after several messages and headlines against Democratic politicians were posted, including one calling for the assassination of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
“The New York Post has been hacked. We are currently investigating the cause,” the newspaper noted via Twitter after apparently regaining control of its account.
Early Thursday, several violent or insulting headlines against Ocasio-Cortez and U.S. President Joe Biden, among others, appeared on the newspaper’s Twitter profile.
There was also a racist message against the mayor of New York, African-American Eric Adams, and another attacking teachers’ unions.
All of them were quickly deleted and by this time the Post’s website was operating normally.
The tabloid is one of New York’s largest and is known for its eye-catching headlines and conservative-leaning opinion section.
