AOC Investigated by a Congressional Ethics Committee

Leer en Español

A congressional committee tasked with overseeing the ethical conduct of lawmakers reported Wednesday that it is investigating Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC).

The House Ethics Committee did not specify why it is investigating Ocasio-Cortez, who has represented a NY district since 2019 and is one of the leading leftists in American politics.

Media outlets, such as Fox News, detailed that the reasons why Ocasio-Cortez is being investigated are unknown. “Details about what the investigation is looking into haven’t been released. The Office of Congressional Ethics, a nonpartisan group, forwarded its inquiry into Ocasio-Cortez to the House ethics panel in June,” Fox News detailed.

The media outlet recalled that Ocasio-Cortez has come under fire from critics on several occasions. “Last year, she was hit with an ethics complaint over her attendance at the Met Gala in New York. It was alleged that she broke House rules by accepting free tickets to the event, which brings out celebrities and public figures each year.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Response

EFE contacted a representative of Ocasio-Cortez and said they are confident that the investigation will be dismissed.

The Lower House Ethics Committee announced Thursday that it was expanding the scope of the investigation and, in order to do so, had to disclose its existence.

The Ethics Committee added that any further action in these inquiries will be postponed until the members of Congress who were elected or re-elected in the November midterms take their seats in January.
