The Florida-led program
DeSantis detailed that the agency has delayed the Canadian Prescription Drug Import Program, promoted by the Republican administration. In addition, he argued that the delay affects the lives of the state’s residents because of drug prices.
The governor also argued that “we have had enough of Biden’s bureaucracy.”
“The FDA has unreasonably delayed approval of our Canadian Prescription Drug Importation Program – which lowers prescription drug costs for Floridians. It was approved by Trump in 2020, and today we filed a lawsuit to end the FDA delay”, he stressed.
According to various media outlets, such as the Tampa Bay Times, “FDA officials would need to approve the importation program, and the state submitted a proposal in November 2020, the lawsuit said. The proposal has remained pending, with the state saying it has not received a timeline for a decision.”
