The battle continues: Ron DeSantis moves to revoke Disney’s tax privileges

The Walt Disney Company opposed a parental rights measure last year, and its then-CEO threatened to get it overturned. As a result, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is continuing to push back against the company.

The state legislature’s extraordinary session was convened by the Republican governor on Thursday in order to conclude the steps before Disney’s special tax status expires in June. After then-CEO Bob Chapek vocally opposed Florida’s “Parental Rights in Education” law, which forbids schools from providing LGBTQ curricula to K–3 pupils, the GOP-controlled legislature voted to revoke the company’s registration in May of last year.

At a News conference last Thursday, the Governor stated:

“We’re not going to have a corporation controlling its own government. So the state’s going to have a board to run it. So Disney will not have self-governing status anymore. We’re not going to bend the knee to woke executives in California.”

Watch:

Even though Disney’s new status isn’t expected to take effect until June, DeSantis convened the special session to finalize the policy and create the groundwork for the change.

Walt Disney World’s special tax and self-governing status, which were established in 1967 as the Reedy Creek development, are to be terminated, according to the legislation.

A study conducted during the Disney-Florida legislature spat last year revealed that more Americans disapproved of the Walt Disney Company adopting radical LGBTQ ideology.

According to a study by The Trafalgar Group, over 7 in 10 Americans are looking for more “family-friendly options” after learning that Disney is becoming more “woke.”

According to the study, a resounding 68.2 percent of voters are now “less likely to do business with Disney.” 57.2 percent of those people indicated they would be “much less inclined” to purchase from Disney.

The study also revealed that 48.2 percent of Democrats indicated they are less inclined to “do business” with Disney as a result of the company’s position on include LGBTQ characters and terminology in its parks, programs, and films. This finding is particularly noteworthy.

The CEO of the company stated that she is the “mother of two queer children — one transgender child and one pansexual child” after a prominent Disney heir recently revealed that his child is transgender.

According to Convention of States Action president Mark Meckler: “These numbers reveal clearly that 2022’s parent’s revolt movement is growing stronger every day. Parents are infuriated by the widespread leftists assault on their kids,”

Also, 69 percent noted they would be far more likely to “support family-friendly alternatives to Disney.”

Sen. Tom Cotton and other Republicans have also criticized Disney’s “liberal corporate leaders” for their increasingly “woke” agenda.

In the media realm, conservative ran companies like The Daily Wire and Prager U have started initiatives to create content for kids without these leftist ideology components.

Also, social media viral initiatives such as the trending hashtag #Groomers #OkGroomer and the Twitter account “Gays Against Groomers” were born after the feud between Disney and DeSantis started.
