At least 18 people were killed during a Russian airstrike on Thursday against a military unit located in the Black Sea shore, near the Odesa region, after the beginning of the military operation ordered by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, against Ukraine.

As a result of the attack, 8 men and 10 women died, the State Emergency Service reported.

One of the fatalities was found alive in the rubble of the military facility but died later in hospital.

Earlier the Ukrainian Presidency reported the deaths of more than 40 soldiers during attacks by the Russian Army on airfields and military bases on the territory of this country.

Most of the casualties occurred during this morning’s aerial bombardments, according to presidential aide Alexei Aristovich.

Arestovich, who stressed that Russia has nevertheless failed to undermine the defensive potential of the Armed Forces, appealed to Ukrainians to give blood for the soldiers fighting on the front lines.

The Ukrainian Army denounced that Russia not only attacked military infrastructures, but also hammered villages, where civilians were reportedly killed.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced today the breaking of diplomatic relations with Russia after the aggression ordered by the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin.

He also assured that his government is already distributing weapons “among all those who wish” to defend the national territory from the Russian invader.

“The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine ordered to cause the greatest possible losses to the invader,” the AFU said in a statement.
