Some 47,000 illegal migrants who were captured and then released by the Biden administration are now “missing” by failing to comply with the “notice to report” to authorities.

A report by The Epoch Times revealed that in the five months between the end of March and the end of October 2021, more than 104,000 notices to appear were issued. Of those, 47,705 failed to appear before Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to official data received by Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI).

Upon release, illegal immigrants receive a notice to appear at a local ICE office within 60 days. Many of them fail to appear, disappearing from the authorities’ control.

According to data obtained by TET, border authorities released more than 273,300 illegal aliens from January through August 2021. In addition, ICE bused more than 37,000 of them from the border to larger transportation hubs such as San Antonio or Phoenix stations and provided domestic flights to 51,750 individuals.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told senators in September that those who fail to report to ICE would “qualify as a priority.” This means that the 47,705 could be subject to arrest and deportation if caught.

“DHS data shows the practice of issuing [Notices to Report] has been an abysmal failure” Senator Johnson, the top Republican on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Investigations, said in a press release.

In July 2021, it became known that the Democratic administration was leaving it up to illegal migrants to decide whether or not to go to the offices to regularize their cases. A situation that exposed the vulnerability of the country’s immigration system.

Biden relaxed rules to favor illegal migrants

Attorney Maria Herrera, a specialist in immigration law, told El American that in recent months an increasing number of migrants have arrived in the United States and the Biden-Harris administration has decided to let them in “without even doing the credible fear interviews that is the basis for humanitarian entry into the country.”

“This administration, on the basis of memos or guidelines for the implementation of immigration laws, forces Border Patrol agents and police to violate the law to the point that a vast majority of immigrants, are not even referred to immigration judges after entering the United States,” she denounced.
