The announcement was made at Cinemacon in Las Vegas, where the singer made a surprise appearance. The president of Sony Motion Picture Group, Sanford Panitch, said that El Muerto will be released on January 12, 2024, according to media reports.

Juan Carlos Estrada Sánchez is El Muerto in Marvel Comics. He is a masked fighter whose strength lies precisely in that mask, inherited by his family for generations.

According to Variety, the Puerto Rican singer said that bringing El Muerto to life is “just incredible” and described it as “exciting”. He also added that he grew up as a wrestling fan.

It was also known that in some of the comic book stories, El Muerto has interacted with Spider-Man, with whom he starred in a fight in which the Latino superhero was about to unmask Spider-Man.

Bad Bunny is not the first

Although some media said that Bad Bunny is the first Hispanic to star in a Marvel production, it is not true. Currently, the series Moon Knight, starring Guatemalan Oscar Isaac, can be seen on Disney+.

Moon Knight is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sharing continuity with the franchise’s films. The series is produced by Marvel Studios, with Slater as a lead writer with Mohamed Diab heading the directing team.
