FORMER adviser to former President Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, turned himself in to the Manhattan district attorney’s office Thursday and is expected to face specific charges later today.

The charges filed against Bannon are unknown at this time, but according to reports the prosecution could be related to his work on We Build The Wall, a fundraising operation to allegedly help fulfill Trump’s promise to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Before entering the Manhattan district attorney’s office, Bannon described the situation to reporters as ironic.

Banon claimed that on the same day that the mayor of New York has a delegation at the border, people like him are being persecuted for trying to help stop migrants at the border.

In February of last year, the New York District Attorney’s Office began an investigation against the former advisor for allegedly defrauding donors for the border wall with Mexico, after he was pardoned by the former president hours before leaving the White House.

The preventive pardon granted to him by Trump applies to possible federal crimes, but not state crimes, so Bannon could still be charged for this case.

Last July he was found guilty of contempt of Congress, for which he could be sentenced to up to one year in prison and fined up to $200,000.
