Biden Travels to Oregon to Avert Democratic Catastrophe

Biden, El American

Joe Biden undertook an emergency trip to the state of Oregon. Why? To try and rescue the Democrats in the gubernatorial election, which has gone down to the wire in the polls for Tina Kotek, who faces Republican Christine Drazan. Should she lose this race, the local governor’s mansion would be stained red for the first time in 28 years.

The president will be in the Beaver State this Friday, October 14, to try to motivate the Democratic base, which according to the latest polls is not very enthusiastic this 2022.

Since June of this year, polls have shown Drazan as the winner by a margin that ranged from one to six percentage points.

In the face of this doomsday scenario, let’s remember that the last Republican governor in Oregon was elected in 1982. Biden will land in Portland to rally support to prevent this from happening again.

According to Reuters, an advisor to the president said he intended to emphasize “Democratic policies to protect Medicare, lower prescription drug costs and lower health care costs while applauding Kotek’s stance on raising the minimum wage and protecting abortion rights.”

Local political consultant Len Bergstein pointed out that the president could be exactly what Democratic voters need in Oregon. “The Democratic governor’s candidate has got to pull in the kind of voter that normally votes for Joe Biden in a race like this, and energizes that turnout. She’s losing too many regular Democrats and non affiliated voters to be comfortable in this race,” he said.

Another reason that makes a possible Republican victory surprising is that Biden defeated Donald Trump in the state by 16%. The last poll was prepared by Clout Research and showed a comfortable victory for Drazen by 6%.
