Former NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio will teach as a visiting professor at Harvard University in the schools of public health policy and management next semester, the institution announced Wednesday.

The Harvard Institute of Politics said in a release that the Democratic politician will participate in discussions, events, and programming. The New York Times adds that he will teach a School of Public Health course on leadership in major health crises.

De Blasio was mayor of the Big Apple between 2014 and 2021, including the time of the covid-19 pandemic that started with the city as the epicenter, and he aspired to be a presidential candidate in 2020 and a congressman in 2022 once his term was over, in both cases without success.

As the former mayor told the NYT in an interview, he hopes to focus on issues such as early childhood education and dealing with a pandemic in his new role as a professor.

De Blasio ran the city for the maximum time allowed but left the mayor’s office with low popularity, that led him to withdraw as a congressional candidate shortly after launching his campaign and declare that he would seek other ways to serve society.
