Border Sheriffs Criticize Bowser for Declaring Emergency on Illegal Migrants in DC: ‘They Have Seen Nothing’

Border sheriffs criticized DC’s mayor for declaring an emergency after the arrival of buses with illegal migrants, sent from Texas and Arizona.

“They have seen nothing. They are not a border town. They don’t know what a border town is,” Sheriff Roy Boyd told Fox News Digital, Goliad County, Texas.

Boyd’s statements came after news broke last week that Washington, D.C. Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a public emergency to address the massive influx of illegal migrants. The migrant referral was initiated because the governors of these states believe it is the responsibility of federal authorities to care for migrants due to President Joe Biden’s open borders policy.

“This is a new challenge for DC, but I feel confident that if we lead with our values, and if we put the right systems in place –which we are doing with the Office of Migrant Services, then we will lead a response that makes our community proud,” Bowser said in a statement.

Washington, D.C., and other Democratic cities

Jonathan Thompson, executive director and CEO of the National Sheriffs’ Association, highlighted that Democratic cities are beginning to experience the consequences of an open borders policy pushed by the Democratic Party and Joe Biden’s administration.

“We finally now have cities and communities that are experiencing real pain, real suffering, and they want to blame someone else. Well, they should pick up the phone and dial [The White House]. Talk to the president…That’s who owns the policy,” Thompson commented to Fox News.

Thompson also explained that this situation is being experienced by border sheriffs who, he stressed, are overwhelmed by the immigration crisis: “They’re overwhelmed trying to bring dead bodies and the remains of illegal aliens that are found in the desert. They’re overwhelmed in their communities with human services shortfalls. They’re overwhelmed with crime response. And they’re overwhelmed with just the sheer magnitude of things that need to happen to help care for people.”
