Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) spoke about the events in Cuba during an exclusive interview for El American with Anna Paulina Luna amid the Student Action Summit 2021 (#SAS2021). He described the Cuban communist regime as repressive and totalitarian after hundreds of arrests or disappearances following protests on the island. Byron asserted that the authorities in that nation do not believe in freedom.
Likewise, he was emphatic in affirming that Americans should be careful, since “the same political ideology that has flourished in Cuba for 62 years is the same political ideology that thrives in the American Democratic left”.
In the interview, rep. Byron Donalds expressed his support for all Cubans on the island and celebrated the fact that citizens outside the island also support the freedom so desired by its inhabitants. He stated that it is not only Cuba that is asking for freedom, but Venezuelans are also clamoring to get out of Nicolás Maduro’s regime.
“Everyone is coming out in support of the freedom of Cubans, but it is not only in Cuba, but it is also Venezuela and people do not seem to understand that. Venezuela 30 years ago was a prosperous country, and look what happened to it, the country has been destroyed by Marxist ideology. It is important to be out there and support them, they want freedom,” said Donalds.
Byron is one of two current African-American GOP representatives in the House of Representatives. He is also part of a group of young politicians who helped solidify Florida as a Republican stronghold.
The Congressman has recently been seen all over Florida engaging with citizens, as well as helping nationally to advance the GOP commitment to minorities.
Congressman Byron Donalds’ remarks exclusively to El American came during an event held by Turning Point USA, a non-profit organization founded in 2012 by Charlie Kirk, in Tampa, Florida. Since its founding, it has embarked on a mission to build the most organized and active network of conservative grassroots activists on high school and college campuses across the country.
