Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis made her first public appearance since being declared cancer-free by her doctors, in Governor Ron DeSantis’ campaign.

During a dinner at The Villages Monday night, the First Lady joined the governor and addressed supporters in thanks for the support and prayers.

“Well, Governor, I don’t know if this sounds very first-lady-like but, damn, it feels good to be here! I will say this: no matter what you’re going through in life, no matter how hard things seem like they are, no matter how hard it feels like you have to pick yourself off the ground or it feels like the wall is against the wall, fight. Fight like hell! And never, ever give up.”

Mrs. DeSantis said in a statement she is “forever thankful” to the citizens of Florida for the support she received during the months of treatment, and that she hopes to inspire more patients with her story.

“After six rounds of chemotherapy, a surgery, six weeks of radiation, and most importantly, through God’s grace, I am elated while humbled to be back on the campaign trail fighting for America’s Governor; I look forward to telling Florida’s story of success and why thousands of new residents are flocking to the Sunshine State in the name of Freedom.”

Since then, the First Lady turned her interest to initiatives related to cancer research, early diagnosis, and treatment in Florida. The first of these was the announcement of $100 million for cancer research and care at Florida’s cancer institutes, which was included in the governor’s budget for 2022-2023.
