The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Hua Chunying, launched a smear campaign against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. On her Twitter account, she shared an old news item related to COVID-19 contagion cases and the alleged firing of a state official.
Hua Chunying, who is a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson and also director-general of the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, devoted at least three tweets attacking the Republican governor accusing him of hiding data related to the pandemic and based on articles that are at least a year old and have already been disproved.
Chunying, who spreads propaganda against DeSantis, has not taken up a single tweet to ask her own government the reason why she hid from the origin of COVID-19, to the true number of cases of contagion in her country. However, the Chinese regime decides to attack the governor of Florida. Nor has it occupied a single tweet in questioning why the governor of New York concealed cases of deceased elderly people in nursing homes in the state.
“Why was Rebekah Jones, the manager instructed to take the data down, terminated and later fired after she told her supervisors the removal was the ‘wrong call’?” the Chinese official’s tweet regarding the departure of Jones, a former board manager at the Florida Department of Health (FDOH), notes.
Christina Pushaw, DeSantis’ press secretary, told El American that it is clear that the Chinese regime “is promoting a year-old hit piece from a local media outlet in Florida. This says a lot about who the CCP fears — not the Biden Administration, but the Governor of Florida.”
She says the Chinese foreign ministry seeks to attack the governor because he “has taken a strong stand for freedom against the CCP.”
He also recalled that the governor “banned Confucius Institutes in Florida and took action to deter intellectual property theft. Even more significant is DeSantis’ stance against lockdowns, which the CCP has promoted even though they violate individual rights and destroy economies while failing to stop the spread of COVID.”
Who is Rebekah Jones?
Jones is a former FDOH manager and has been trying to convince Americans that Gov. Ron DeSantis manipulated COVID-19 data in the state.
She claims that while working at FDOH last year, she was directed by her superiors to modify “raw” data to make Florida’s COVID response look better and was fired after refusing to do so.
The former official was debunked when it became known that the reasons for her dismissal was for misbehavior with various actions and backgrounds ranging from posting information without the permission of the agency she worked for, as well as “personnel data” from the FDOH.
