A group of conservatives created a GoFundMe campaign to help Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s grandmother after the home of AOC’s abuela in Puerto Rico was affected by Hurricane Maria.

Ocasio-Cortez told the story of her abuela’s struggles on Twitter. However, she was criticized for not helping her grandmother, despite having the resources to drive a Tesla car and having a congressional salary of $174,000 per year. Similarly, conservative commentator Matt Walsh, creator of the campaign, pointed out that Ocasio-Cortez is not able to help her family, but talks about alleged systemic injustices.

“One cannot be certain of the cost to repair grandma’s house, but surely most of the work could be completed for the price of AOC’s shiny Tesla Model 3”, the GoFundMe for AOC’s abuela says.

The campaign was joined by other conservatives, such as Ben Shapiro. “I just donated $499, the monthly lease payment for a Tesla, to help AOC’s grandmother fix her home,” Shapiro tweeted.

In less than 12 hours, the campaign has raised over $100,000. “Over 400 compassionate donors have contributed. I am so inspired by this outpouring of support!”, Matt Walsh celebrated, who also explained he did the campaign because AOC’s abuela is not responsible for her granddaughter’s ideology.
