The city of Philadelphia is on its way to breaking its homicide record and is currently one of the most dangerous large cities in the country.

The sense of insecurity is increasingly pervasive, as shown by a survey conducted by the Pew Center that reveals that 70% of residents see crime as the most important problem facing Philadelphia, almost 30 percentage points higher than in 2020.

75% of residents in the sixth-largest city in the United States (1.6 million inhabitants) claim to have heard gunshots in their neighborhood in the last 12 months.

According to official data, this year to date there have been 352 homicides in the city -a figure similar to that of the same period in 2021-.

This figure was described by the mayor himself, Democrat Jim Kenney, as heartbreaking, maddening, and outrageous.
