Democrat Vicente Gonzalez Closes Bank Account in China after His Statements Were Disclosed

Leer en Español

Democrat Vicente Gonzalez closed his account in a bank managed by the Chinese Communist Party after a statement confirming its existence was published. Gonzalez’s team confirmed the decision.

The information was published by Breitbart, which had also published the bank statement last year. “Typically, the statements are due annually on May 15. However, Gonzalez filed a 90-day extension in March, allowing him to file up until August 13 — which he filed and was accepted by the clerk on August 12, according to documents reviewed by Breitbart News,” the outlet explained.

The article adds that “when asked by Breitbart News, the congressman’s press secretary James Rivera confirmed in an email that the account was closed in 2020. Rivera did not give any additional statement about the account’s closure when asked by Breitbart News.”

Breitbart detailed that with the measure, the congressman would be complying with what he said at the time the information about the existence of the account was published. “In March 2021, Breitbart News exclusively reported that the congressman’s previous statements showed holdings in the Bank of China — which fully acknowledges itself to be a “wholly state-owned commercial bank” and has been since the mid-1990s.”
