Florida Governor Ron DeSantis denounced the consequences of the Biden administration’s “disastrous border policies” by allowing the entry of thousands of illegal migrants from all over the world without exhaustive control of who enters the country.

For DeSantis, the border crisis is an issue that affects national security, but he favored opening the doors to migrants who, like Cubans, are fleeing tyrannical regimes and fear for their lives.

In a press conference at the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora, the Florida Governor called Biden’s immigration policies “harmful” because they encourage the growth of drug trafficking and the unstoppable increase in human smuggling.

DeSantis showed his frustration because Florida has helped Texas capture illegal migrants. However, when they are in the hands of federal officials, they are in many cases released without knowing who they are.

“We, in the state of Florida actually sent support last summer to help Texas and to help interdict. The problem is, you interdict and then you give them to the feds, and then the feds will do things like fly people in the middle of the night at two in the morning and drop them off. (…) There’s no papers. No one knows who the hell any a lot of these people are. So, it’s chaos” the governor reported.

DeSantis said that, when he was at the border, he was able to see people from Africa, the Middle East and South America who, thanks to Biden’s policies, prefer to skip legal immigration processes to get to the United States.

DeSantis said that, when he was at the border, he was able to see people from Africa, the Middle East and South America who, thanks to Biden’s policies, prefer to skip legal immigration processes to get to the United States.

“Why would you want to go through three years of an immigration process (…) Just come across the border illegally.”, DeSantis questioned Biden’s open borders.

The Florida Governor further mentioned secret flights that the Biden administration sponsors to transport illegal migrants to different cities of the country in the wee hours of the morning.

“If these policies are so great, why are you hiding them at two o’clock in the morning? How come you’re not being honest? Why aren’t you giving the state a heads up about who you’re bringing in to the state, how come you’re not blaring this from the rafters so that everybody knows how great you’re doing?” questioned the Governor who added that these actions violate the federal law.

DeSantis urges Biden to send illegal immigrants to sanctuary states, not to Florida.

” Florida’s been very clear, we’re not a sanctuary state for illegal immigration. We’ve made that clear in our laws. We made that clear in our policies. You have other states who have done differently, California, New York (…) And yet they’re sending more illegal immigrants to Florida than they are even to California, which is twice our size.” DeSantis said.

The Governor announced that he will be getting money from the legislature to redirect the illegal migrants transported to Florida by the Biden administration to Delaware and California.

“We’re getting money from the legislature because we will be redirecting to Delaware and California and these other sanctuary states, that’s going to happen in Florida. But until then we’re in a situation where they do this without providing notification, always under the radar, clandestine, and doing it in a way to try to escape any type of public scrutiny” he pointed out.

“Cuban refugees are not illegal migrants”

The Florida Governor clarified that his position on accepting Cuban refugees is because they are not qualified as illegal migrants but as refugees because they are fleeing a communist regime.

“And we have some people here – we’re going to discuss some of these things – I just think there are a lot of bad analogies that are carried out in the modern political discourse. But to equate what’s going on at the southern border with mass human trafficking, illegal entry, drugs, all these things…with Operation Pedro Pan, frankly, is disgusting. It’s a mistake. It’s not nearly the same thing. We have people who were coming because they were fleeing a communist dictatorship that is persecuting them. Those are not illegal immigrants. They are people who were authorized to come by the U.S. government,” the governor argued.

“If Cuba was free in the 1960s, we would have never accepted communist refugees into this country,” he added.
