IN THE 2020 Democratic primaries, the average age among the top five candidates was 68, even with Pete Buttigieg’s youth in the calculation. This fact did not go unnoticed by a former Democratic senator, who asserted that her party has an obvious generational turnover problem.

Claire McCaskill served in the Senate for 12 years, representing Missouri. After her attempt to seek a third term was thwarted by Josh Hawley, she became a political analyst for NBC and MSNBC.

In fact, she spoke with Meet the Press this past Sunday and left some statements that could worry more than one Democrat.

“But I will tell you I do think the Democratic Party is struggling with an issue that is real. All of our leadership — and I say this as somebody who’s ancient — you know, a lot of old folks are running the Democratic Party now in every part of the Democratic Party,” McCaskill said.

The former Missouri senator also indicated that the “Democratic Party will benefit from really doing some navel-gazing about how can we get more young people to the forefront because young people are going to be really important to us in 2024”.

McCaskill’s remarks come amid much criticism of President Joe Biden, now 79, for his numerous vacation days and some cognitive complications.

One of those most concerned about the latter is Ronny Jackson, a current congressman and former White House physician. “While you underwent your annual physical exam on November 19, 2021, you either did not face a cognitive test or those results were withheld from the public” Jackson said.

Fifty-three Republican lawmakers signed a joint letter demanding that President Biden take such an exam and that his results be made public knowledge.
