The DOJ released Friday a detailed list of documents seized from former President Donald Trump during the FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago resort residence in Florida. Most documents marked as secret, top secret, or confidential were empty folders. The rest were personal items or declassified documents.

The document shows a total of 33 boxes that make up Exhibit A of the seized evidence, which contained nearly 13,000 items. Only 103 documents in those boxes were marked as secret, top secret, or confidential.

The remaining 12,800-plus items were unclassified government documents, magazines, newspaper pages, gifts he had received during his administration, books, photographs and even personal items.

The list of classified documents did not include details about their contents.

Trump vs. DOJ: will there be independent review?

According to an affidavit made public last week that was censored almost in its entirety, the DOJ’s main interest in raiding Trump’s property was classified documents in his possession, allegedly stored in an insecure manner.

The list was released by order of Florida federal judge Aileen M. Cannon as she continues to evaluate whether to appoint a “special expert” to verify the documents for possible executive privilege.

Trump’s legal team believes Cannon should appoint an independent official because they consider the DOJ unreliable. For their part, DOJ lawyers believe that the appointment of an outside agent to review the documents is unnecessary and would delay the investigation.
