The United States reached the final stretch of an atypical electoral campaign where two totally opposing candidates are aiming for the presidency of the most powerful country in the world. On the one hand, Donald Trump is focused on demonstrating that Joe Biden has turned to the left and would open the door to socialism; and on the other hand, the Democrat is focused on promising an anti-COVID-19 vaccine for the entire population.

The campaigns of both candidates are not only different in terms of promises and actions to be taken; compromises on both sides could change the direction of the United States.

Election campaign: two opposing poles

Biden closed his campaign in Ohio, Pennsylvania and then Pittsburgh, focusing on the African American community. The Democratic candidate will be accompanied by the controversial singer Lady Gaga.

“See you at Joe’s event! We need all the votes, make a plan to vote. This election is up to you,” the artist wrote on her social networks.

Gaga, campaigned for Hilary Clinton in 2016, who over the years was found to have been involved in corruption scandals.

After learning of Gaga’s involvement, U.S. President Donald Trump also recalled that the artist who now supports Biden is a member of the group “Artists Against Fracking” which disapproves of fracking in the United States, a method of oil extraction that made the U.S. the largest producer of oil and gas in 2014.

“I just learned that Sleepy Joe Biden is campaigning in Pennsylvania with Lady Gaga, a proud member of Artists Against Fracking. This is further proof that it would ban fracking and drive up energy prices,” Trump said on his social networks on the last day of the campaign.

For his part, Trump will spend his final hours before the national elections in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, where he is conducting major rallies that, he hopes, will translate into votes. In doing so, he will repeat Sunday’s number of events.

His last election event will be in Grand Rapids, Michigan, repeating the 2016 campaign close, when he scored a victory that surprised the entire world.

This Monday, November 2, Trump’s campaign team released a statement on the Democratic Party’s plans to de-legitimize the election day results.

Trump’s campaign officials accused Biden of planning to “steal” the election by filing lawsuits to extend the deadlines for counting the mail ballots in key states.

“We fully anticipate that the Democrats will be in court arguing to extend the deadlines for counting the mail ballots…” said Trump’s deputy campaign manager, Justin Clark.

His comments came after President Trump warned Sunday night that his campaign lawyers would “go” to Pennsylvania on election night to stop any efforts to delay the mail ballot count.

According to Clark, “Biden has assembled a massive team of lawyers who will try to loosen up the electoral integrity so they can steal this election”.

“The Democrats are panicked that Joe Biden has not amassed a large enough lead in the early voting in the battleground states and know that President Trump’s in-person votes on Election Day will make up the difference and propel him to victory”. Clark said.

The most important election in U.S. history

In an interview with El American, political analyst Dinesh D’Souza explained that these elections are critical for the United States because they are “two opposite poles on the ideological spectrum”.

“If this election goes to the Democrats, there is a possibility that the United States will move toward a socialist end, while if the Republicans win, it seems clear that, in the best of cases, the current line will be maintained,” the specialist said.

“Trump’s Republicans want the United States to be a free society but also a decent society, one that allows the maximum amount of freedom, one that is compatible with having a lawful society and also compatible with having a society where people can pursue their dreams, the American dream,” he explained.

“This is a case where the two parties are at odds on the objectives and are pulling the country into its two very opposite poles, which is why these elections are so significant,” D’Souza said.
