This Tuesday, during the midterm elections, Maricopa County’s (Arizona) Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Gates reported that 20 percent of the county’s polling places are experiencing problems with their voting machines.

“We’ve got about 20 percent of the locations out there where there’s an issue with the tabulator where some of the ballots, after people have voted, they try and run them through the tabulator and they’re not going through,” Gates said in a video posted on Twitter.

Maricopa County has 223 voting centers and at least 44 of them have problems with the tabulators. According to information published by journalist Ali Bradley, electoral officials explained that technicians are working on the problem, but have no estimate of when the situation will be resolved.

The report came at a time when, according to official records, more than 45.8 million Americans voted early in the midterm elections. The states with the highest early voting were Florida, Texas, and California, with more than 5 million votes.

In these elections, the United States renews all 435 seats in the federal Lower House and one-third of the 100 seats in the Senate, both held by the Democrats.
