The state of Florida leads in the quality and easy access to the higher educational system, according to a national ranking that measures, among other things, the proportion of citizens in each state who have college degrees and the time it takes them to complete their degrees.

Governor Ron DeSantis announced his state’s achievement on Twitter saying, “Florida is the #1 state for students to get a higher education, and we keep the cost of our public colleges and universities low so students students can pay for their education without incurring crippling debt.

According to the US News ranking, Florida offers the best access to college education nationwide. In addition to the quality of education, the annual report compares the cost of tuition and in-state fees, as well as the debt burden carried by college graduates.

In April of this year, DeSantis signed a bill into law that eliminates the stranglehold that teachers’ unions and accrediting agencies have had over universities and colleges adding transparency requirements for tuition, fees and cost of materials.

The metric on which Florida is best evaluated is the cost of a college education. Overall, the Sunshine State has held the top spot in the US News rankings for six consecutive years, but in the past two years has improved in three of the five metrics in recent rankings: four-year graduation rate, average debt and fees.

Education in Washington, California, Wyoming and Colorado follow Florida in the same ranking.
