Marc E. Elias, an attorney for Hillary Clinton’s campaign, explained that the media is ignoring what he believes is really behind the raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home. Elias cited Title 18, Section 2071 of the U.S. Code, and highlighted that Trump could be barred from ever seeking public office again.

“Yes, I recognize the legal challenge that application of this law to a president would garner (since qualifications are set in the Constitution). But the idea that a candidate would have to litigate this is during a campaign is in my view a ‘blockbuster in American politics,’” Elias wrote on Twitter.

Elias also questioned the former president’s actions in the face of the raid. “Trump can release the search warrant and the inventory of what the FBI took. Why hasn’t he?,” he commented.

Subsequently, the former Clinton campaign lawyer posted other messages in which he considered that beyond the legal aspect, in his opinion, Donald Trump would not win an election in 2024. Then some users criticized him for his closeness to Hillary Clinton, and he assured to feel proud of his work with the Democrat.

Elias’ message comes after it became known that the FBI raided the former Republican president’s home in the Mar-a-Lago resort, Palm Beach-Florida. “My beautiful home, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided and occupied by a large group of FBI agents,” Trump said in a statement that spread on social networks.
