Hurricane Ian lost strength and is now a tropical storm after its passage through Florida. During the week, the natural phenomenon caused destruction in Cuba and southwest Florida.

However, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned that Ian will produce high winds and heavy rains. As well as storm surges in areas of the east coast of Florida and Georgia.

“Widespread, life-threatening catastrophic flash and urban flooding, with major to record flooding along rivers, will continue across central Florida. Widespread considerable flash, urban, and river flooding is expected across portions of northeast Florida, southeastern Georgia and eastern South Carolina tomorrow through the weekend,” the center said in statements to the media.

It was also known that hundreds of citizens remain without electricity due to the phenomenon. The hurricane had knocked out power to more than 2.6 million people in Florida by Thursday morning with outages concentrated in southwest and central Florida, according to the tracking site poweroutage.us.

At the time of this writing, media outlets are reporting one death as a result of the hurricane. The Wall Street Journal reported that it was a 72-year-old man in Deltona, Florida. According to the information, he drowned after going out to try to empty his pool.

“The sheriff’s office reported Thursday morning that deputies found the man in a canal behind the home. He appeared to have slipped on a muddy hillside and fallen into the water,” WSJ reviewed.
