ACTRESS and activist Jane Fonda announced Friday that she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, and has just begun chemotherapy treatment to fight it.

In an Instagram post, Fonda said she felt “very lucky” given that it is a “very treatable” type of cancer, and because “80% of people survive.”

“I’m also lucky because I have health insurance and access to the best doctors and treatments,” the 84-year-old actress added. “I realize, and it’s painful, that I am privileged in this.”

Fonda announced that she will undergo 6 months of chemotherapy and that she is “handling the treatments quite well,” and clarified that her illness will not stop her activism against climate change.

“Cancer is a teacher and I’m paying attention to the lessons it holds for me. One thing it’s shown me already is the importance of community,” Fonda explained on her Instagram post. “Of growing and deepening one’s community so that we are not alone. And the cancer, along with my age, definitely teaches the importance of adapting to new realities.”

The activist used her message to recall how “beyond consequential” the mid-term elections to be held in November will be.

The Julia (1977), Barbarella (1968) and Grace & Frankie (2015) actress has been arrested multiple times in Washington for protests related to her environmental activism.
