Jeff Zucker, president of the television giant CNN, announced his resignation from the company with immediate effect under the argument that he had a relationship with a longime co-worker. However, behind the now former president of CNN there are more scandals that could have influenced his departure from the television network.

In a statement, Zucker informed that investigations related to anchor Chris Cuomo, led him to confess about “consensual relationship with a longtime co-worker.”

“As part of the investigation into Chris Cuomo’s tenure at CNN, I was asked about a consensual relationship with my closest colleague, someone I have worked with for more than 20 years,” Zucker told employees in a memo. “I acknowledged the relationship evolved in recent years. I was required to disclose it when it began but I didn’t. I was wrong. As a result, I am resigning today,” he said.

Jeff Zucker did not name his colleague in the memo, but the relationship is with Allison Gollust, CNN’s chief marketing officer.

Although the until today president of CNN said that the resignation was because of a love relationship, behind it there are serious claims from Chris Cuomo, who assured that Zucker was his accomplice.

Jeff Zucker’s other scandal

Just hours after being fired from CNN, anchor Chris Cuomo started a public dispute with CNN claiming that Zucker, then president of the network, was his accomplice.

A spokesman for Chris Cuomo told the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) that Zucker was widely aware of the details of the anchor’s support for his brother Andrew: in short, the CNN president allegedly knew that Chris violated journalistic ethics and yet did nothing to remove him from the screens.

“They were widely known to be extremely close and in regular contact, including about the details of Mr. Cuomo’s support for his brother (…) There were no secrets about this, as other individuals besides Mr. Cuomo can attest,” the spokesman added at the mention of Zucker.

To the admission, CNN reacted by accusing Chris Cuomo of peddling “alleged lies.”

“He has made a number of accusations that are patently false,” CNN told the WSJ. “This reinforces why he was terminated for violating our standards and practices, as well as his lack of candor,” it notes.

“If Jeff had known all along, Chris would have been fired earlier, not suspended. (..) He lied to us,” the source sentenced.

It should be recalled that CNN launched investigations after documents — released by New York Attorney General Letitia James following an investigation into Governor Andrew Cuomo — showed that while working as one of CNN’s top anchors, Chris Cuomo was also effectively working as an unpaid aide to the governor.
