With early voting beginning and November 8 fast approaching, Lee Zeldin is clear on what the main issue of his campaign will be: crime. Just as Glenn Youngin won an improbable victory in Virginia based on education, the current congressman is looking to do the same in the Big Apple.

To achieve its goal, and after pressuring Kathy Hochul in the debate, Lee Zeldin’s campaign published an ad on the aforementioned topic that took social media by storm.

The ad begins with a tender image of the Republican candidate’s daughters, while his voiceover relates that they have appeared humorous so far in the campaign. However, he assures that, “with violent crime escalating across the York, this is no time for humor, is time for action.”

Zeldin then appears with his daughters in front of his home, stating that on his first day as governor, he will declare a “crime emergency, stop Hochul’s cashless bail and fire weak prosecutors.”

To reinforce the message and end the 30-second clip, the Republican stares into the camera and speaks directly to voters. “Vote like your life depends on it because it does,” he closed.

Lee Zeldin’s video accumulated hundreds of thousands of views on social networks and even congratulations from some prominent officials. For example, Senator Ted Cruz shared the announcement on his Twitter account, describing it as “powerful”.

According to the polls, the race has become much more even in recent months. After an initial comfortable lead for Hochul, polls began to show some competition. Not many post-debate reports have been released yet and these are expected to indicate an even closer election in a quintessentially blue state.
