Majority of Democrats Think Latinos Switch to GOP Because of Disinformation and Racism

Leer en Español

In recent years, Latinos have taken an interesting turn toward the Republican Party. With exponential growth since 2012, the GOP has a drawing power for this demographic that scares Democrats, who took the Latino vote for granted. However, a poll revealed the unusual reason some explain this trend.

WPA Intelligence took a sample of 1,000 people and conducted a survey between August 22 and 25. It asked them why Hispanics are turning to Republicans.

The “reason” Latinos are moving to the GOP

Surprisingly, 57% of those who consume MSNBC put “disinformation” as their first choice, while 54% of CNN viewers came to the same conclusion. Meanwhile, 16% of the first group and a fifth of CNN respondents said that what drives Latinos to the GOP is that they have “internalized racism” and have a “desire to fit into white society.”

Since the 2012 presidential election, the Republican Party has seen an exponential increase in the percentage of Latinos voting Republican. For example, 27% of this demographic chose Mitt Romney against Barack Obama, while four years later, 29% opted for Donald Trump against Hillary Clinton. In turn, 32% of Latinos voted for Trump against Biden.

Moreover, in these last elections, the former president carried Hispanic men in Nevada, came very close to doing the same in Florida, and surpassed his 2016 performance in 11 states.

“Common sense says that misinformation isn’t limited to any one side of the political aisle, yet so much of the media’s attention focuses on falsehoods on the political Right. So, we wanted to explore how common conspiracy theories and falsehoods are among left-wing voters,” WPA CEO and managing director Conor Maguire told The Daily Wire.

In addition, the poll found that 38% of CNN viewers find it “somewhat or mostly true” that Vladimir Putin stole the 2016 election for Donald Trump, while 45% of MSNBC users think the same.

Finally, the poll found that 64 % of CNN viewers, 63 % of MSNBC viewers, and two-thirds of total respondents think Ron DeSantis banned using the word “gay” in schools. Indeed, another 38% of CNN consumers and 30% of MSNBC viewers believe that Florida’s government requires college professors to register their political party with the state.

“Our poll found that significant shares of Democrats, self-described liberals, and CNN, and MSNBC viewers believe things that are objectively untrue — from thinking the 2016 election was stolen by Russia to the baseless belief that Florida requires university professors and students to register their political views with the state,” Maguire commented on the matter.
