Political strategist Giancarlo Sopo published an ad made by his firm Visto Media dedicated to Senator Catherine Cortez Masto and Joe Biden highlighting how Democrats have attacked Spanish and are pushing the use of the controversial term “latinx.” The video asserts that most Hispanics do not identify with that expression and therefore it is necessary to defend Hispanic culture and language.
“As Hispanics we are proud of our culture. …. So why do Joe Biden and Catherine Cortez Masto want to destroy our language…Latinx is an attempt by radical Democrats who want to castrate our language,” the ad says.
In addition, the video highlights the values of Hispanics and emphasizes that they are people who defend family and faith.
“We are people of family and faith. We have to defend our language. That’s why this November 8 we are going to tell Cortez Masto, the Democrats and their latinx to go to la chingadx (to go f*ck themselves),” the video states.
Hispanics don’t want to be called what Cortez Masto calls them
Earlier this month Gallup published a poll that confirmed the following: most Hispanics do not like to be called “Latinx.” The study was conducted between June 1 and July 5, with a sample of about 1,381 American adults weighted to proportionally represent Hispanics and black Americans. It showed that only 5% of Hispanics prefer to be called “latinx” when given a choice.
Likewise, a poll last year, released in December by Bendixen & Amandi, confirmed what poll after poll has already shown: despite the Democratic Party’s widespread use of “Latinx,” an overwhelming majority (97%) of Hispanic-Americans do not use it.
According to the survey, only 2% of Latino voters actually use “Latinx” as a way to describe themselves, compared to 68% who use “Hispanic” or 21% who use “Latino.”
