In the last hours, Herchel Walker had to come out to deny a story by the Daily Beast, which published an article in which it was said that the Senate candidate paid an ex-girlfriend to have an abortion, telling her that “it was not the right time” for him to have another child. Following these accusations, both Donald Trump, as well as several Republican Party figures and allied organizations expressed their support for him.

The former American footbal player was the first to come forward and deny the whole situation.

Republicans stood up for Herschel Walker

“This is a flat-out lie — and I deny this in the strongest possible terms. This is another repugnant hatchet job from a Democrat activist disguised as a reporter who has obsessively attacked my family and tried to tear me down since this race started,” confirmed in a statement.

Support for the Senate candidate was not long in coming and, due to the seriousness of the allegations, one of the most anticipated endorsements was perhaps that of National Right to Life, a pro-life organization founded in 1968.

“Herschel Walker wants to protect unborn children while Raphael Warnock wants to see them die through unlimited abortion,” a spokesman told National Review.

As for top officials, Rick Scott, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, did not hesitate to support his potential future colleague in the midst of the accusations. “When the Democrats are losing, as they are right now, they lie and cheat and smear their opponents,” the senator said last Tuesday.

“That’s what’s happening right now. They know they are on the verge of losing the Senate and they know Herschel Walker is winning, so they have cranked up the smear machine,” added who represents Florida in the upper chamber.

Meanwhile, a top Republican strategist spoke to POLITICO and assured that “the reality is the Democrats have been running ads for two months saying Herschel tried to murder his ex-wife. I don’t know that this moves the needle.”

Ralph Reed, founder and president of the conservative evangelical Faith & Freedom Coalition, also did not hesitate to defend Walker. He described what the Daily Beast published as “an anonymous allegation that is 13 years old is unlikely” and noted that “voters are far more likely to vote based on inflation, the economy, high gas prices, and the failure of Biden policies, which Raphael Warnock has supported 96 percent of the time”

Back in the Senate, John Cornyn (R-TX) called the “personal attacks — all too common in political campaigns,” a “diversion from the threats to Georgians’ economic, personal, and national security.”

According to polls, both Walker and Warnock are within the margin of error heading into November 8, in what promises to be one of the most important and tightest elections of the 2022 cycle.

Of course, the most mediatic endorsement came from Donald Trump himself, who released a statement defending not only his candidate, but also his friend.

“Hershel Walker is being slandered and maligned by the Fake News Media and obviously, the Democrats, Herschel has properly denied the charges against him, and I have no doubt he is correct.”, the former president wrote.
