The Russian Army has destroyed 74 ground military facilities during the operation it launched early this morning in the east of the neighboring country, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

According to the portfolio spokesman, Igor Konashenkov, as a result of the actions of the Russian forces, 74 facilities were rendered inoperative and one combat helicopter and four Bayraktar drones were shot down.

Among the destroyed targets were 11 air force airfields, three command posts, and a naval base.

Konashenkov said that Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has issued orders to “treat with respect” Ukrainian servicemen who lay down their arms.

“Taking into account the fact that the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, unlike the nationalists, took an oath to the Ukrainian people and carry out orders, treat them with respect and create safe corridors for the exit of Ukrainian servicemen who have laid down their arms from the areas of the operation,” Konashenkov quoted the Russian minister as saying.

The defense spokesman assured that the attacks are not carried out against urban centers and social infrastructure of military barracks.

“At present, in the combat zone, resistance is exerted mainly by armed nationalist detachments,” he said.

Ukraine has nevertheless denounced Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure, in which, according to Kyiv, several people have been killed.

Russia launched early Thursday morning a large-scale military operation against Ukraine to defend the inhabitants of separatist eastern Ukraine from “abuses” and “genocide” by the Ukrainian government, according to President Vladimir Putin.
