American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten admitted that she shared misinformation about Florida Governor Ron DeSantis regarding banned books in the state.

“I should have double checked before I retweeted this list. My bad. Looks like some of the books weren’t banned. Book bans are very real & dangerous”, she said Sunday on her Twitter account.

Misinformation

The list published by the AFT president was disseminated by an account called “Freesus Patriot”. The listing mentioned books such as To Kill a Mockingbird and A Wrinkle in Time. Weingarten deleted the tweet with the misinformation.

Upon reading the information, several social media users let Weingarten know that the list was false. “That list is fake, Randi. Notice that there’s no link to a source for it.”, Frank Luntz wrote.

In fact, the press secretary of DeSantis’s office, Bryan Griffin, had responded to another user and clarified that the information being shared on social media regarding the books was false. “The best the left can do nowadays is try to make people think their own failures belong to someone else”, Griffin stated.
