The Saudi Arabian crown made public the first three-dimensional design of its smart city project, which will be called The Line, and is part of its Saudi Vision 2030 plan, which aims to reduce its dependence on oil, polluting gas emissions, and diversify the economy under the pretext of climate change.

The Saudi Press Agency, the official media of the Saudi state, published an advertising spot highlighting the main features of the project, which promises “autonomous services” and a transportation system that dispenses with fuel cars.

The spot notes that humanity has lived in “dysfunctional and polluted cities that ignore nature” and promises a “revolution of civilization.”

According to the advertisement, The Line will house 9 million residents in an area of 34 square kilometers, with communities organized in three dimensions that will offer its inhabitants access to “all their daily needs” in distances that can be covered on foot in 5 minutes.

The Line will consist of a wall 500 meters high, 200 meters wide and 134 kilometers long, and covered in mirrored glass.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), who was involved in the murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, said that Neom, the smart city that will include The Line, will allow people from all over the world to “make their mark.”

“We cannot ignore the livability and environmental crises facing our world’s cities, and NEOM is at the forefront of delivering new and imaginative solutions to address these issues,” MBS told state media. “NEOM is leading a team of the brightest minds in architecture, engineering, and construction to make the idea of building upwards a reality.”
