Former U.S. President Donald Trump showed his support on Tuesday for the re-election of Cuban-American Congressman Carlos Giménez, who, as a mayor of Miami-Dade County, was one of the first to support the immigration policies of the Republican when he took office in 2017.
Giménez was first elected to the U.S. Congress in 2020 to represent Florida’s 26th District, which includes the Florida Keys and part of southwestern Miami-Dade County.
“From Firefighter to Mayor and now Congressman for FL-26, he is a proven leader who will fight for South Florida and who always puts America first,” Trump said in a statement.
The former Republican mayor, for his part, thanked Trump on Tuesday for his support on his Twitter account, noting that they both share “his passion against socialism and communism.”
“Carlos is strong on Homeland Security, our border, and he´s committed to a strong economy,” Trump said.
