Val Demings Uses Hurricane Ian Tragedy to Raise Funds for Her Campaign

Leer en Español

Democratic Senate candidate for Florida Val Demings has used the dangerous Hurricane Ian to raise money for her political campaign against Republican Marco Rubio.

Demings released a campaign video Wednesday in which she talks about the damage left behind by Hurricane Ian. “Death toll in Florida soars after Hurricane Ian demolished entire communities. Ian may be one of the costliest hurricanes in U.S. history,” the video says.

“Marco Rubio didn’t bother to show up and vote for natural disaster relief. We cannot trust him to show up for Florida when we need him the most,” the Democrat highlights in a tweet. However, such a claim is false. Sen. Rubio was visiting communities affected by the hurricane along with president Biden.

In the same message, Demings left a link leading to an ActBlue page that asks for “a generous grassroots donation right now to help my people-powered movement flip Florida blue.”
