Watch: D.C. Council Member is Upset Texas & Florida Turned It Into a ‘Border Town’ for Illegal Migrants

Washington D.C. council member Brianne Nadeau is upset that Texas and Florida have decided to take up D.C.’s offer of being a “sanctuary city” and have been shipping thousands of illegal aliens to the nation’s capitol.

On Thursday, Nadeau condemned the states’ scheme to send D.C. its illegal immigrants by lamenting that the capitol was being turned into a ‘border town.’

“So it’s been said, but it’s worth reiterating that the governors of Texas and Arizona have created this crisis and the federal government has not stepped up to assist the District of Columbia,” Nadeau complained. “So we, along with our regional partners, will do what we’ve always done. We’ll rise to the occasion. We’ve learned from border towns like El Paso and Brownsville. And in many ways the governors of Texas and Arizona have turned us into a border town.”

“We don’t know how long this will take to resolve,” she went on. “We don’t know how long they will continue busing. And so the right thing to do here is to be prepared, to ensure we can greet every bus. We can get people off on the right foot. We can get them where they want to go, and that will ultimately help them in their immigration.”

On Thursday, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a ‘border crisis’ in the District of Columbia and a state of public emergency.

“We’re putting in place a framework that would allow us to have a coordinated response with our partners,” Bowser said Thursday. “This will include a program to meet all buses, and given that most people will move on, our primary focus is to make sure we have a humane, efficient, welcome process that will allow people to move on to their final destination.”

“Regardless of the federal response — which I think has been lacking in some respects — that the District of Columbia would continue to work with partners to advance what we need and ensure our systems in D.C. are not broken by a crisis that is certainly not of our making,” Bowser added.

As reported by Fox News, Bowser’s emergency declaration will “set aside funding to accommodate migrants as well as create the Office of Migrant Services. The OMS will be tasked with providing temporary accommodations, urgent medical needs, transportation” and other services for migrants.”

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimates that five million illegal immigrants have crossed into the country under President Joe Biden’s term.
