The organization of the U.S. Open tennis tournament said in a statement that the tournament does not have a vaccination mandate for players but will respect the government’s position on travel to the country by unvaccinated non-U.S. citizens.

This, in principle, can leave out of the fourth Grand Slam of the year the Serbian player Novak Djokovic, who, after winning at Wimbledon, showed his intention to participate in the New York tournament if he has permission to enter the country.

“In accordance with ITF Grand Slam regulations, all eligible players automatically enter the men’s and women’s singles main draws according to their ranking 42 days prior to the first Monday of the event,” the organization says, which remains at the expense of the government’s position.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) published the list of players for the singles draws, and according to these regulations, Djokovic is included for the moment. Still, his situation has yet to be resolved as he has not been vaccinated against covid-19.
