The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, asked this Wednesday for the sending of more weapons to continue facing the Russian invasion and has warned that the war is far from over and that what has been experienced so far has been only the first round.

“Several experts assured that Ukraine would not hold out for more than a week. We have not only stopped the Russian army but also pushed it back. But our war is far from over,” Zelensky said.

The president also reiterated his long-standing warning that if Vladimir Putin is not stopped in Ukraine he will continue his expansion by attacking other countries. “Russia does not contemplate stopping in Ukraine. Russian propaganda openly states that Europe is the next logical target,” he said.

He further added: “If the West does not help Ukraine stop now Putin will continue to expand his empire and kill women and children. He has already done so in Mariupol, Kharkiv, Bucha, and other Ukrainian cities.”

President Zelensky ready to fight on

To continue to confront the invasion Ukraine needs, according to Zelensky, heavy artillery, armored vehicles, air defense systems, and aircraft. Then, he adds a more specific list in which he asks for artillery pieces and shells of 155 and 152 mm caliber, multiple missile launching system “Grad,” “Uragan,” or “American M142 Himars”, T-72 tanks, and other armored transport vehicles.

The request for fighter aircraft has been reiterated because one of the main challenges is to prevent Russia from controlling Ukrainian airspace. Zelensky believes that, after withdrawing for the time being from the area around Kyiv, Putin is changing his strategy to try to press harder in Kharkiv and the entire Donbas region, including the strategic Mariupol.
