6 Hispanic Candidates with Solid Anti-Inflation Proposals

Leer en Español

The last few months of the Democratic administration have been shaped by the economic crisis. The vast majority of voters hold the economy as their main concern as the country has been hit by the highest inflation in 40 years. Faced with this situation, Hispanic Republican candidates in the midterm elections have presented solid economic proposals. Here are 6 of them.

María Elvira Salazar

María Elvira Salazar, a Republican from Florida, believes that one of her tasks is to ensure that socialism does not reach a large scale in the US. She believes that all economic policies that promote employment should be implemented to create prosperity in society. She is committed to informing citizens about economic ideas that actually work.

“We have to tell Americans that policies based on the free market, low taxes and freedom are more successful than what we are seeing now,” said Salazar, referring to inflation and what Republicans should do to address the situation.

Mike García

Republican Rep. Mike García has also issued several recommendations to address inflation. A major one is that the Biden administration should cut government spending. “Democrats spend taxpayer dollars on needless programs and drive inflation higher,” García wrote in an op-ed.

He added: “I introduced the Inflation Prevention Act to the U.S. House of Representatives to put a limit on giving Congress additional tools to fight inflation. Members of the far left are literally creating more dollars to spend on needless federal programs in an effort to buy votes, and it’s time to reel in their irresponsible spending.”

He argued that “real solutions to curb this inflationary period do exist, and it’s time we start adopting them. I urge my Democrat colleagues to join my fight to curb inflation and work for, not against, the American people.”

Mónica de la Cruz

For Mónica de la Cruz, the American Jobs and Tax Cuts Act needs to become permanent. The Republican candidate for the 15th district of Texas defends a free economy and private businesses. She also insists on opposing any effort to raise taxes on Americans and repeal the inheritance tax.

Marco Rubio

Senator Marco Rubio explained that one of the possible steps Republicans can take to address the economic situation is to eliminate the policies that are preventing oil production, and to prevent more government spending because “what that does is create more demand and more inflation”. Finally, Rubio proposes promoting production in the US.

“The reason for inflation is that they have an agenda to pander to a liberal elite of people who have a lot of money and are protected from this whole crisis. What we Republicans have done is we have prevented more money from being spent because that would mean more inflation,” Rubio said in an interview with Acción 97.9

Mayra Flores

Mayra Flores (R-TX) agrees with Rubio that it is necessary to boost production in the US and proposes incentives for job creation in the country. On her website, she points out that Texas is the economic engine of the US due to its low regulation and business-friendly mentality. “Texans know that when you get government out of the way and let the private sector create jobs, the economy will flourish. I am an advocate against socialism and will always promote capitalism,” says Flores.

She further argues that “the oil and gas industry is critical to the success of our state and nation. The industry has been hit hard in recent years, but I will always work to help the oil and gas industry and stand firm against radical policies that would undermine it.”

Cassy García

Another South Texas Republican candidate fighting inflation is Cassy García.

“I talked to mothers and fathers who told me, Cassy, we are having to make difficult decisions. I don’t have a savings account anymore. I have to make a decision whether to put gas in my car or buy eggs and milk for my children. I’ve had to take out a loan to buy school supplies for my kids,” García said in an interview on Fox News.

“That’s what we’re facing right now. And you’ve got the administration saying we have more money in our pockets. They do not have more money in their pockets. They are struggling. They are trying to make ends meet. And that breaks my heart. We’ve got to get this economy moving again and we’ve got to watch the out-of-control spending that we’re seeing right now in this country,” while one of her campaign proposals is to “end the reckless spending driving inflation.”
