A SURVEY revealed that at least half of Americans believe that the United States will cease to be a superpower over the next 10 years. The survey conducted by The Economist and YouGov also shows that respondents are worried about a potential economic collapse.

“Most Americans consider likely in the next decade is that the U.S. ceases to be a global superpower (50% say this), followed by a total collapse of the U.S. economy (47%). Each of the 15 dire scenarios is considered somewhat or very likely in the next decade by at least 20% of Americans,” the survey says.

Following the possibility of the United States ceasing to be a superpower, Americans also see losing democracy as another likelihood. “Citizens say the United States is likely to become a fascist dictatorship (31%) and 21% say it will become a communist dictatorship.”

U.S. divide

It emerged Wednesday that a majority of Americans believe President Joe Biden’s speech in which he attacked supporters of former President Donald Trump was divisive, according to a Harvard CAPS-Harris poll with The Hill.

“Sixty percent of respondents said Biden’s speech divided the country and held it back, while 40 percent said the speech united the nation and moved it forward. Another 56 percent opposed the address, while 44 percent said they supported it,” the survey explained.
